Cherryville survives rain, Hickory to win 4-2

After an hour rain delay on Monday, Cherryville Post 100 rose as the lone undefeated team in the American Legion Area IV West Division on Monday.

Post 100 took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, handing Hickory Post 48 (8-2, 6-1) its first loss in West Division play and second overall.

Cherryville improves to 10-1, 3-0 in the West Division.

Post 100 scored a run each in the sixth and seventh innings, while Hickory's lone runs came in the seventh inning.

Blake Mosteller picked up the win for Post 100, allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts, four walks and three hits. Dylan Hasting earned the save in relief.

Robert Whaley suffered the loss, tossing eight innings, allowing four runs (two earned), striking out five and walking three Cherryville batters.

Offensively, Post 100 was led by Josh Beam, who went 2-for-3 from the plate.

Matt Ward, Ky'Rawn Whitfield, Davis Hanvey and Tyler Pait all led Hickory with one hit apiece on offense.

Post 48 tries to rebound from its second loss with another road contest Tuesday against Hendersonville. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
