Catawba County Schools Board of Education plans to release information about the search for a new superintendent at its next meeting.
Board chairwoman Joyce Spencer told The O-N-E on Monday that the board is "hoping to have information" at its Feb. 28 meeting.
In December, the North Carolina School Board Association said CCS received 24 applications for the superintendent position, which is currently held by interim superintendent Glenn Barger.
However, Monday, Spencer said there is "no definitive number of finalists."
CCS attorney Crystal Davis said the board has scheduled no more meetings concerning the superintendent search, as of Monday night.
As for the schedule to wrap-up the superintendent search by March, Spencer feels confident the board will have a decision by that date.
"The weather and snow has impacted a lot of schedules," Spencer said. "We may be off several weeks (in the plan), but not significantly out of the timeline."
According to the timeline adopted by the board last year, the board was scheduled to select finalists and have initial interviews from Jan. 24 to Feb. 4. Meetings for final interviews and reference checks or to decide on final terms of the offer are set for Feb. 21-28.
Final contract discussions are scheduled to happen between Feb. 28 and March 7, with a meeting tentatively planned for March 7 to announce CCS' new superintendent.
As long as the Board of Education follows this timeline, a new leader can start April 7.
The Board of Education's next meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Annex boardroom. All meetings are open to the public.
