Local political insiders are apparently not expecting surprises when the Catawba County Board of Commissioners holds its annual reorganizational meeting Monday morning in the courtroom of the former county courthouse in uptown Newton (the current Museum of History).
At that session, the commissioners will elect a chairman to lead the board for the next year, as well as a vice chairman.
Questions to leaders of the Republican Party, which controls the policy-making board, have indicated few rumors of potential changes in leadership. The 2013 commission chair is Katherine “Kitty” Barnes, who resides east of Terrell at Lake Norman, near the Catawba-Iredell County line.
