Catawba County arrests, incidents

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office reported the recent incidents and arrests.

Incidents

March 16
* Thieves in Claremont broke into a motor vehicle and stole a rear-window lock off a 1987 Dodge truck.

* Two handguns were stolen from 2852 Rosemont Court in Newton. The firearms were worth about $610 total.

* At 3967 Section House Road in Hickory, thieves broke into a house and stole $2,178 worth of tools. A generator, air compressor, three saws and a 24-volt drill were also stolen.

* At 1509 Joe Johnson Road in Catawba, burglars broke into a home and stole a portable generator worth $400 and a Honda four-wheeler worth $3,500.

March 17
* Thieves broke into a vehicle at 3542 Buffalo Shoals Road and stole $300 worth of tools. An AC/DC invertor box, a black open tote, a screwdriver set, a phillips screwdriver set, adjustable wrenches and channel locks were also stolen.

* Thieves took a heat/air unit from outside a vacant residence at 1460 Old Farm Drive in Hickory. The unit was worth $3,500.

* Thieves broke into property at 4454 Lakeshore Circle in Catawba and stole a 61-inch zero-turn lawnmower worth $8,000, a gas powered weedeater worth $116 and a leafblower worth $100.

* A thief broke into property at 4760 Bowman Road in Hickory and stole a well switch and pump mechanism worth $5,000.

*Thieves cut phone lines and broke into a building at 3451 Graystone Place SW in Conover and stole building materials and other cable lines worth a total of $100.

* Someone broke into a storage unit at 7063 Startown Road in Maiden and stole $5,650 worth tools and tool boxes.

Arrests
* Rory Joseph Cleary, 38, was arrested on a charge of not having an operator's license and a charge of possession of an open container. He was held in jail with no bond.

* Tommy Dean Mitchem, 50, of Newton, was arrested on a charge of assault on a female. He was held in jail with no bond.

* Melissa Gail Huffman, 31, of Newton, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery. She was held in jail with no bond.

* Elena Medina Crooks, 32, of Newton, was arrested on charges of contempt of court perjury and court violations. She was held in the Newton Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond.'

* Kevin Shane Higdon, 36, of Hickory, was arrested on charges of non-support/non-payment of alimony. He was held in the Catawba County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond.

*Charles Allen III Bargsley, 26, of Hickory, was arrested on charges of non-support/non-payment of alimony. He was held in the Newton Detention Center.

* Richard Allen Clemmons, 42, of Hickory, was arrested on charges of equipment/paraphernalia-possessing/concealing. He was held in the Newton Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond.

* Chelise Renea Moss, 21, of Newton, was arrested on shoplifting charges. She was held in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $1,500 secured bond.

* Colby Arron Church, 20, of Newton, was arrested on charges of equipment/paraphernalia-possessing/concealing and drug violations. He was held in the Newton Detention Center on a $800 unsecured bond.

* Kelly Dawn Byers, 30, of Conover, was arrested for on three counts of drug violations. She was given a $60,000 secured bond.

* Alan Daniel Bush, 28, of Conover, was arrested on charges of non-support/non-payment of alimony. He was held in the Newton Detention Center ona $500 secured bond.
* William Curtis Atwell, 36, of Newton, was arrested on charges of simple non-physical threat and intimidation. He was held on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

* Michael Jenson Simpson, 54, of Newton, was arrested on charges of simple assault, FTA, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was held in the Catawba County Detention Center with no bond.

* Harry Money Moore, 55, of Newton,was arrested on charges of FTA and an expired registration tag. He was held in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond.
