Carillon expands Garden Place

October 6, 2010

Carillon Assisted Living in Newton expanded its Garden Place wing and new residents are expected to move-in today.
The Garden Place, which is Carillon's Alzheimer's unit, went from holding 24 beds to  44 beds for residents with a memory-impaired disease. Carillon Executive Director Chris Alex said the growing need for an Alzheimer's facility encouraged staff to expand.
"The need in Catawba County (is why we chose to expand)," Alex said. "There is definitely a need (for an Alzheimer's facility)."
Construction started in May for the renovated wing, which includes a gated courtyard with a flower garden and walking path; a screened-in porch with rocking chairs; a dining area with a kitchen; and a quiet room for residents to meditate. Each room is equipped with a bathroom and walk-in shower. Carillon also has spa treatments on-site for residents.
Rhonda Brazzell, Carillon's marketing director, said seven activities are planned daily for Garden Place residents.
