Careless cigarette costs chair

The Newton Fire Department responded to a reported house fire Wednesday night but found something a little different.

Initial reports at 9:09 p.m. to 911 were from one of the occupants that said the house was on fire and that everyone was attempting to get out, according to fire officials.

Upon arrival the fire department found a confusing scene. A chair was in the front yard burning and the two occupants were arguing.

Newton Police Department was requested to assist the firefighters determine what had happened.
