Car splits utility pole

A two-vehicle wreck shut down Settlemeyer Bridge Road in Newton shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Newton Fire, Police and NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) responded to a vehicle that was laying on its roof after striking a utility pole near the bridge.

According to the NCSHP report, Brendon Andrew Spencer Faire, age 20 of North Caldwell Street in Newton, was driving a Saturn when he hit a bump in the road which caused him to cross the center line and strike the utility pole. The pole snapped and the power lines fell to the ground.
