Car crashes into Hickory house

December 27, 2010

A Hickory man was charged with driving while impaired Monday after his vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a Mountain View residence.

Michael Dawson Keever, 58, of Hickory, was traveling east on Bethel Church Road at 8:22 p.m. when he crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.S. Swagger said Keever's 1994 Toyota Camry traveled 171 feet across the front yard at 5174 Bethel Church Road before striking the home's dining room. The car went through the dining room area before stopping on its side, with the passenger-side down, in the home's garage.

The homeowner, Michael Dyson, was home at the time of the crash. Swagger said Dyson wasn't in the rooms damaged by the crash, and he was uninjured in the incident.
