Bucs sweep Danville on the baseball diamond

The sixth-ranked Catawba Valley Community College baseball team swept Danville Community College on the diamond on Saturday at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

The Bucs (20-5, 10-1) won 12-3 in game one and picked up a 8-3 victory in game two.

CVCC pounded out its 12 runs in the first game on 12 hits, including Blake Myers with two hits. Myers drove in two runs and scored three.

Bucs pitcher Robert Whaley picked up the victory on the mound with a complete game. He improves to 6-1 on the season.

Sophomore Loren King led CVCC in game two by driving in two runs and scoring two runs on two hits, including a solo home run. Myers also drove in two RBIs for the second-straight game.

CVCC pitcher Steve Blythe was the winner on the mound, allowing no hits, no runs and struck out five Danville batters in the final 2.1 innings of the game.

The two teams play again on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Henkel-Alley Field.
