Newton-Conover varsity girls basketball Ike Williams has accepted an assistant coaching position with the women's basketball program at Catawba Valley Community College.

Nick Schroeder, CVCC's sports information director, confirmed that Williams had accepted the position on Tuesday.

"I'm excited to be able to work with Ike on a collegiate level," said CVCC women's basketball coach Tisha England. "Our coaching philosophy, values, morals and just the love for people are unified. We are looking forward to continuing the success here at CVCC one day at a time."

During his two-year stint with the Lady Red Devils, Williams' teams went 40-15, including a 22-6 mark in the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference.

Newton-Conover shared the girls basketball title in the CVAC in 2011.

The Lady Bucs are coming off of their best season in school history with a 30-1 overall record and first-ever Carolinas/Virginia Conference title.

CVCC promoted England from assistant to head coach on April 25. She replaced Tommy Edwards, who coached the program to a 82-30 overall record in four seasons.

Edwards also spent 28 seasons coach the girls and boys basketball programs at Bunker Hill High School.

Both England and Edwards were inducted into the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame on Monday night.
