BREAKING: States of emergency announced in area

Both Catawba County and the city of Conover have issued States of Emergency following winter weather in the area.

Katherine "Kitty: Barnes, chair of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners, issued a State of Emergency for Catawba County as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The city of Conover followed suit, declaring a State of Emergency as of 2:22pm on Wednesday.

The storms in the area are predicted to bring between eight and 12 inches of snow across the county.

UPDATED (4:05 p.m.): Newton Mayor Anne Stedman signed a proclamation declaring a State of Emergency on Wednesday for the city due to the significant winter storm.

UPDATED (5:31 p.m.): Mayor Rudy Wright declared a State of Emergency for the city of Hickory, as of 2 p.m. A release was sent out to local media at approximately 5:31 p.m. announcing the State of Emergency.
