The Carolina Panthers waived kicker Justin Medlock on Tuesday — two days after he missed his third-straight field goal for the team.

Medlock, who signed a three-year contract with the Panthers on March 7, was 7-for-10 on his field goal attempts this season, but had missed his past three attempts, including a 40-yard attempt in the second quarter of Sunday's 27-21 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

Gano, a four-year pro out of Florida State University, was signed to fill Medlocks' spot on the team.

"It's a production-based business," said interim general manager Brandon Beane in a statement on the team's website Tuesday. "Justin did his best, and we appreciate everything that he did. He's a great person and a great teammate, but unfortunately he missed a couple of kicks over the last couple of weeks.

"You're always looking at options out there. We took a look at a couple of guys and thought Graham Gano was the best fit for us going forward. He's an experienced guy, and he has a real strong leg."

Gan was the Washington Redskins' kicker from 2009-11 after graduating from FSU.

In his career, Gano is 59-80 on field goal attempts and 59-61 on extra points.
