Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason is out for the rest of the season after the team placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Beason had been suffered from knee and shoulder ailments. He is scheduled to have have surgery on his left knee next week.

Beason is the second Panther to have his season ended due to injury this week. Cornerback Chris Gamble was placed on injured reserve on Monday with a shoulder injury.

Beason and Gamble were both inactive for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Panthers signed cornerback James Dockery on Wednesday to take Beason’s spot in the team’s roster and inked linebacker Doug Hogue off of waivers Tuesday to fill Gamble's roster spot.

Beason, a sixth-year veteran out of the University of Miami, had played in four games this season. He recorded 28 total tackles (16 solo, 12 assisted) in those games.

He missed all of last season after he tore his left achilles tendon during last season’s opener against Arizona Cardinals.

Beason signed a five-year, $50 million contract extension with the team before the season started last year with $25 million being guaranteed.
