In just her junior season on the court, Bandys' Madi Story already knows where she wants to invest her basketball future.

Story, the defending Catawba Valley 2A girls basketball player of the year, has verbally committed to play for Appalachian State after her senior year with the Lady Trojans.

The 6-foot junior point guard is averaging 18 points, 5.3 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game this season, helping lead Bandys to a 13-1 overall record and 5-0 conference mark so far in 2012-13.

Story has scored 1,340 points in 76 career games at Bandys High. The Lady Trojans are 68-8 during that span, including 27-4 in Story's freshman season and 28-3 last season.

She is a two-time All-CVAC selection and was also named as a member of the Associated Press All-State team last season.

Story becomes the third member of her immediate family to play college basketball.

Madi's mother, Mitzy (Yount) Story, also played basketball in college for the Lady Mountaineers, while Madi's older sister, Jesse, currently plays college basketball at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Mitzy, who was named North Carolina Ms. Basketball during the 1987-88 season, is currently an assistant principal at Mill Creek Middle School. She also assists her husband, Mark, on the Bandys girls basketball team's coaching staff.

After playing in only one game this season for the Lady Bears, Jesse Story is sitting out this season after having surgery to repair an ailing back.

Jesse, the CVAC girls basketball player of the year in 2010, has petitioned the NCAA for a medicial redshirt to give her another year of eligibility.

The Appalachian State women's basketball team is currently 10-3 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play under fifth-year head coach Darcie Vincent.

The Lady Mountaineers are the two-time defending Southern Conference regular season champions.
