Brandes to retire from Social Services

Beth Brandes will retire as assistant director of Catawba County Social Services on July 31 following 25 years of service and a lifetime of advocacy for children and under-served populations.

She oversees child welfare programs, prevention services, special community-wide initiatives and Family NET, which provides mental health services to children and youth. Some of the prevention programs she supervises include school-based social workers and therapists, consultation with 50 day care centers and The Backpack Program for children facing food insecurity.
