Blueclaws clip Crawdads in New Jersey, 4-3

June 16, 2012

Surviving two rallies by Hickory that tie its game, Lakewood scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to come away with the 4-3 victory on Friday in New Jersey.

The Crawdads (36-31) tied the game twice — in the top of the sixth inning on a Zach Cone RBI single and in the top of the eighth inning on a Luis Sardinas RBI sacrifice fly.

The Blueclaws (24-43) answered in the bottom of the eighth with a sac fly of their own by Chris Duffy, which scored Carlos Perdorno to make it a 4-3 contest.

Despite a leadoff single by Jeremy Williams in the top of the ninth inning, he was thrown out trying to steal second and the final two batters in the inning were retired on a strike out and ground out, respectively.

After blowing his save opportunity, Mike Nesseth picked up the victory on the mound for Lakewood, while Hickory's Will Lamb suffered the loss.

Hickory and Lakewood continue a four-game series with the third game on Saturday in New Jersey. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
