BlueClaws Bounce Back

The Lakewood BlueClaws got back to their winning ways Thursday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Lakewood defeated the Hickory Crawdads 7-3 in the second game of the Crawdads’ final homestand of the 2010 season.

The win gives Lakewood a 3-1/2 game lead over Hickory in the race for the second-half pennant. The loss also drops Hickory to third place in the standings, a game behind Greensboro.

Lakewood started hot Thursday with three runs in the top of the first inning. Hickory responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, including a leadoff solo home run by Travis Adair.

Lakewood’s Anthony Hewitt led off the fourth inning with a solo home run for a 5-2 lead. The BlueClaws sealed the win with two runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Hickory’s Jake Brigham took the loss and dropped to 4-5. He pitched five innings with five strikeouts.
Lakewood’s Joshua Zeid earned his seventh win of the season.
