Blue Devils Sweep Trojans; Bears Open With Win

The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (1-0) opened the 2010 season Thursday on a high note. The Bears defeated Limestone College 3-0 at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.

Three different players scored for L-R and the Bears held a 30-3 shot advantage in improving their all-time mark against Limestone to 9-0-1.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior defender Jessica Schob opened the scoring at the 10 minute 27 second mark of the first half.  Schob punched in her own rebound, which was deflected back to her off a corner kick.

Bear sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Hawes, a 2009 First-Team All-American and

South Atlantic Conference Player Of The Year, rounded out the scoring in the 78th minute when she intercepted a pass down the left side and scored her first goal of the year.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Rebecca Ingram saved two shots in goal to pick up the shutout, and Limestone goalkeeper Kristen Alderin-Fleagle suffered the lost despite picking up 10 saves.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to face UNC-Pembroke at 5 p.m. Sunday.
