Blue Devils Survive Close Match At Saint
Maiden needed five games Wednesday at St. Stephens for its second win of the season. The Blue Devils, just as they did last week against Fred T. Foard, needed all five games and won 3-2.
The Blue Devils defeated the Indians 18-25, 25-15, 25-18, 15-25 and 15-11.
Maiden improved to 2-0, and St. Stephens dropped to 2-3.
Mackenzie Garrison led Maiden with 18 kills and 12 blocks in the non-conference win. Melanie Annas had 10 kills and 12 digs, and Go Lo finished with 21 digs.
Breanna Hall led St. Stephens with 11 kills and three blocks. Taylor Cummins had 27 digs, and Abby Foster had 30 assists.
ST. STEPHENS 2, ASHEVILLE 1
The Indians scored two unanswered goals at Asheville on Wednesday to earn a win.
St. Stephens freshman Jordan Beane scored the game-tying goal in the first half on an assist from Ben Watson.
Indians senior Chris Sigmon scored the game-winning goal in the second half.
FRED T. FOARD 5, EAST BURKE 0
Kenan Ruffner had a hat trick Wednesday in the Tigers’ win over the Cavaliers. Ruffner, a freshman, scored Foard’s first three goals.
Luke Shely and Christopher Finley scored the Tigers’ final two goals in the non-conference win.
Tigers Jason Smith, Mario Carillo and Daniel Tomberlin each had one assist
Foard improved to 4-0-1 after Wednesday’s win.
BUNKER HILL 2, MITCHELL COUNTY 2
The Bears walked away from Wednesday’s non-conference match with a tie. Both teams in the match had a player score two goals.
Jesus Rodriguez scored both goals for Bunker Hill, and Melvin Tehandon scored both goals for Mitchell County.
Mitchell County took a 2-0 lead in the first half before the Bears rallied for the draw. Bunker Hill scored its first goal in the opening minutes of the second half and added another late in the game.
