Disaster food distribution just got easier and faster with the addition of an emergency response vehicle (ERV) to the Catawba Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross fleet. “It’s a tremendous asset to this community,” said Yerby Ray, executive director of the chapter. The ERV will be used in the organization’s three-county district of Catawba, Caldwell and Alexander counties. |

The final countdown to Election Day is on with five days to go, and local political parties are feeling the pressure and excitement of this history-making year. The parties may not agree on the issues, but one initiative is the same for both the Catawba County Democratic Party and the Catawba County Republican Party — get people to the polls to vote. “We’ve made probably 20,000 phone calls in the ‘Get Out and Vote’ effort,” said Chip Canupp, chair of the county Republican Party. |
