Disaster food distribution just got easier and faster with the addition of an emergency response vehicle (ERV) to the Catawba Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross fleet.

“It’s a tremendous asset to this community,” said Yerby Ray, executive director of the chapter.

The ERV will be used in the organization’s three-county district of Catawba, Caldwell and Alexander counties.

The final countdown to Election Day is on with five days to go, and local political parties are feeling the pressure and excitement of this history-making year.

The parties may not agree on the issues, but one initiative is the same for both the Catawba County Democratic Party and the Catawba County Republican Party — get people to the polls to vote.

“We’ve made probably 20,000 phone calls in the ‘Get Out and Vote’ effort,” said Chip Canupp, chair of the county Republican Party.
