Several Catawba County law enforcement officers are learning what they’re made of as they match up against the U.S. Marine Corps for training exercises at Camp Lejeune this week. Fourteen members of the county’s Special Tactics and Response Team (STAR) drove to the military base on Sunday for a week of obstacle courses, stamina tests and training scenarios to keep them at the top of their game. |

Pin Station is in the middle of a growth spurt, as the Newton business expands to embrace the concept of becoming an entertainment center instead of just a bowling alley. The $1.6 million expansion will add 13,500 square feet once it’s complete in early 2009. It will feature eight new bowling lanes, for a total of 50, and a 6,000-square-foot banquet hall that can be broken down into three smaller meeting rooms, said Wayne Dellinger, owner of Pin Station. |
