The Newton-Conover girls soccer program hadn't been to the fourth round of the playoffs or even won a conference championship until last season.

After Saturday, the Lady Red Devils can say they've gone further than any team in program history.

Behind a first-half goal from Chaniece Moss and a late second-half netter from Madelyn Becker, Newton-Conover defeated Parkwood 2-1 in the fourth round of the 2A playoffs at Gurley Stadium.

The Lady Red Devils, who improve to 19-3 overall on the season, travel to West Stokes (23-2-1) for the 2A West Region final on Tuesday.

The Newton-Conover/West Stokes winner faces the Washington (21-2) or Croatan (17-3-3) in the 2A state championship game next Saturday at the Dail Soccer Stadium on the campus of N.C. State in Raleigh.
