Bears Want To Bounce Back From Loss

Lenoir-Rhyne suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, and it wants to bounce back this week with a win at home.

The Bears play the Davidson Wildcats at 7 p.m. Saturday in Hickory. Lenoir-Rhyne is 1-1 this season, and Davidson is 0-1 after a 20-10 season-opening loss to Georgetown. The Bears lost 20-17 on Saturday to Concord.

This is the 20th meeting between Davidson and Lenoir-Rhyne, and the two teams have met every year since 2004. The series is tied at 8-8-1. The Bears evened the series in 2009 with a 42-0 win at Davidson, but the Wildcats won the past two games at Moretz Stadium.

• Lenoir-Rhyne has averaged 416 yards rushing after two games this season.

• The Davidson contest is the final of a three-game homestand to start the season for the Bears.

• Lenoir-Rhyne looks to start 2-1 on the season for the third straight year.

• Twelve players have carried the ball at least once for the Bears in 2010.

• Lenoir-Rhyne running back Gaston Miller has averaged 22.2 yards on just six carries this season and has 133 total rushing yards.

• In addition to rushing offense, L-R also leads the South Atlantic Conference in total offense with 487.5 yards per game.

• L-R has intercepted five passes so far this year.

• The Bears averaged 6,344 fans through its first two home games this season.

• L-R sophomore linebacker Chris Carter already has two tackles for a loss, 1-1/2 sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries this year.

• In 1975, Lenoir-Rhyne set the college record for rushing yards. The Bears racked up 837 yards in a 69-14 win over the Davidson Wildcats. Current radio commentator Jack Huss was the Bears' head coach at the time.
