In a back-and-forth battle in doubleheader Junior Legion baseball, Bunker Hill got the best of Newton-Conover.
The Bears scored six runs in the final two innings of game one to earn a 9-5 victory.
They swept the doubleheader with two clutch RBIs in the bottom of the fifth inning by Nathan Gantt to win game two.
Bunker Hill 9, Newton-Conover 5
The Red Devils and Bears tied after the first inning with both squads scoring two runs each in the first frame.
The Bears gained the upper advantage behind one run in the bottom of the second, only to have the Red Devils score two runs and retake the lead in the top of the third.
Bunker Hill closed the game out strong though, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to win the first game.
Jordan Eckerd led the Bears with a 3-for-3 game and three runs scored.
Colton Chapman went 2-for-2 and Caleb Smith was 2-for 3.
Leading Newton-Conover was catcher Parker Sigmon, who went 2-for-3.
N-Câ€™s Blake Gibbs was 1-for-2 and scored two runs in the first game.
Bunker Hill 5, Newton-Conover 4
For the second straight game, Newton-Conover pulled out to a 2-0 lead after scoring one run each in the top of the first and fourth innings.
Bunker Hill scored three runs in their half of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, but the Red Devils ceased to give up.
A two-RBI single from Sigmon gave the Red Devils the 4-3 lead heading into the final half inning of play.
After two runners got on base and advanced to second and third, Nathan Gantt singled to plate two runs and win the game for Bunker Hill.
Gantt finished the game 1-for-2. Smith and Oliver Reitzel were both 2-for-3.
