Bears lose late season non-conference game

April 20, 2011

Bunker Hill’s Annie Dara, left, hits a high kick during
Wednesday’s non-conference game against West Iredell.
The Lady Bears struggled in the game on offense and
defense and lost a tough game, 6-0.

The Bunker Hill girls’ soccer team got off on the wrong foot Wednesday — literally.

The Lady Bears (2-13-2) struggled against a strong West Iredell team. They had no shots on goal and allowed six goals to drop a non-conference game at home.

The Lady Warriors (12-6-0) scored four goals in the first period and added two early goals in the second period to come away with a 6-0 victory.

“We are a young team. We are trying to build our program,” said Bunker Hill coach Kelsey Dettman. “Every game gives us a little bit more experience. I’ve been pleased with our season so far and I have a great group of girls.”

Leading the way for West Iredell was senior Tess Sigmon. She scored three times, including goals in the 22nd, 29th and 45th minutes.
She also assisted on the first goal of the game off the foot of Taylor Branton in the 13th minute.

Branton added another goal in the 36th minute of the first period and assisted on one of Sigmon’s goals.
