Barrymore's clutch win helps propel N-C on court

With its season on the line, the Newton-Conover boys tennis team’s hopes of reaching the 2A dual team semifinals hinged on the elbow of Tyler Barrymore.

The junior overcame his injured right arm and a pair of 3-0 deficits in set two and a third-set tiebreaker in his singles match with West Davidson’s Brett Moore.

Barrymore’s singles win helped propel the Red Devils to a 6-3 victory against West Davidson on Monday, setting up a semifinal showdown with Shelby on Wednesday.
