After trying to survive over an hour rain delay and 12 strikeouts, the Bunker Hill baseball team’s season is over.

The Bears lost to Starmount at home on Friday. The Bears finished with a 26-2 record.

Impressive in victory was Starmount pitcher Alex Barr, who struck out 12 batters and allowed four hits in six innings pitched.

The Rams (17-8) went up 2-0 in the top of the second inning. After third basemen Tanner Mathis reached base on a two-out single, catcher Jake Barr hit a two-run homer off of Bears’ pitcher Jeremy Null.

The Rams added two more runs in the second and third innings. Alex Barr scored on a sacrifice RBI from left fielder Connor Vanhoy in the second inning.

The fourth run of the game for the Rams was scored in the top of the third. After reaching base on a leadoff walk, center fielder Eugene Billips was plated by designated hitter Wesley Cockerham.

After an hour and a half rain delay, the game resumed at 9:41 p.m.
Starmount added four runs in the fourth inning, as Billips, Cockerham, Dillon Dobson and Jake Barr scored.

The Bears struggled from the plate all game long. Through four innings, Bunker Hill’s lone hit came from Null. He doubled in the fourth inning.
Every batter in the Bears’ lineup had at least one strikeout in the game, and Jake Barr had at least two strikeouts in each of the first five innings.

Bunker Hill rallied in the seventh inning with three runs off of Jake Barr.

However, reliever Dillon Bray came in to close out the game and earned a game clinching strikeout of the final Bears’ batter.
