August 30, 2010

Glenn Barger was named CCS interim superintendent
during a special meeting with the
Board of Education on Monday.

Catawba County Schools Board of Education hired a retired superintendent to serve as its interim until a permanent superintendent is employed.

The Board of Education approved to hire Glenn Barger at a vote of 5-1 Monday in a special meeting. Board member Sherry Butler opposed Barger's hire. Member Carolyn Connor was not present at the meeting.

Barger will start as interim superintendent Oct. 1 and will serve until a superintendent is employed, which is expected to happen near March. Barger retired as CCS superintendent in 2000 and serves as a Catawba County commissioner.
