Arson cause of Hickory apartment fire

April 13, 2012

Fire officials say arson was to blame for a blaze that damaged a Hickory apartment this week.

At 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a fire at the Ridgecrest Apartments at 2940 12th Ave. SE.

Firefighters controlled the blaze by 12:19 a.m., and no one was injured.
Investigators estimate damage at $10,000, mostly from heat and smoke.

The apartment building was evacuated for about 45 minutes Thursday morning.

The Catawba Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the person who lived in the apartment.
