Area IV pairings released, Hickory faces Kings Mt.

The pairings for the American Legion baseball Area IV playoffs were officially released on Sunday at a meeting at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.

For the first time ever, all 16 Area IV teams qualify for the postseason with teams from the East Division playing teams from the West Division.

Hickory Post 48 (15-4, 11-3) drew the No. 3 seed in the West bracket and takes on Kings Mountain (3-11, 3-11) — the No. 6 team in the East.

Both squads will play a best-of-five series starting Tuesday at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds. Game two is Wednesday in Kings Mountain and game three is back at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds on Thursday.

Games four and five, if necessary, would be at Kings Mountain on Friday and at Hickory on Saturday, respectively.

The first round of the Area IV playoffs must be finished by Sunday.

The second round starts thereafter and must be completed July 14, while the semifinals must be completed on July 20 and finals on July 28.

The North Carolina American Legion tournament is scheduled to start Aug. 1-5 at Granite Falls.

Game 1 (July 3): Kings Mountain at Hickory, 7 p.m.
Game 2 (July 4): Hickory at Kings Mountain, 7 p.m.
Game 3 (July 5): Kings Mountain at Hickory, 7 p.m.
Game 4, if necessary (July 6): Hickory at Kings Mountain, 7 p.m.
Game 5, if necessary (July 7): Kings Mountain at Hickory, 7 p.m.
