Animal Shelter promotes adoptions

The Catawba County Animal Shelter is working hard to adopt out pets while conducting cleaning efforts. The county is continuing its sanitizing routine that happens twice a year in the shelter. The cleaning effort is to prevent outbreaks of disease. The shelter had an outbreak in the fall of 2010, but doesn’t currently have any diseases in the shelter.
“Sanitizing the shelter is one of the measures we take to prevent the spread of disease or any future disease outbreaks,” Assistant Director of Emergency Services Mark Pettit said.
In an effort to minimize the number of animals that will be housed outside in tents during the cleaning period, the shelter is offering half-price adoptions. The half-priced adoption runs from Oct. 8-19. The adoption fees are $25 for cats and $37.50 for dogs. The normal adoption prices are $50 and $75.
