Anderson named SAC Defensive Player of The Week

September 10, 2012

Lenoir-Rhyne's Joe Anderson has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player Of The Week, league officials announced Monday.

Anderson, a sophomore defensive back from Lilburn, Ga., led Lenoir-Rhyne with a team-high 10 tackles to go along with two pass break-ups and an interception in the Bears' 20-2 home-opening win over Davidson last Saturday night at Moretz Stadium.

Anderson returned an interception 54 yards in the first quarter to the Davidson 36-yard line which set up Lenoir-Rhyne's first touchdown of the contest.

Anderson also helped L-R's defense limit Davidson to just 35 yards rushing and kept the Wildcats out of the end zone.

Anderson is currently second on the squad in tackles with 15 including nine solo takedowns this year and is first in pass break-ups with five.

Wingate's Robbie Nallenweg and Catawba's Jumal Rolle were named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive and Special Teams Players Of The Week, respectively.

Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1) opens South Atlantic Conference play this Saturday when the Bears travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to take on Carson-Newman (1-0) starting at 1 p.m.
