Hot dogs. Popcorn. Pretzels and the crack of a ball against a bat on sun-soaked baseball diamond.

Few atmospheres are uniquely American like the nation’s baseball stadiums, and no holidays celebrate the nation like Independence Day.

This week, the two events that define the summer-time American spirit will combine on baseball diamonds throughout the Hickory Metro.

First, Hickory American Legion Post 48 opens its tournament run with a contest against Kings Mountain at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds.

While the future diamond stars head to Cleveland County on Wednesday, the big boys will be in action at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Hickory Crawdads host Delmarva for an Independence Day game that concludes with another American flair: fireworks.

First pitch in all the action is set for 7 p.m.
