Alexander County names new EDC coordinator

The Alexander County Economic Development Corporation announced Gary Herman as the Small Business Development Coordinator. Herman’s first day on the job in Alexander County was Monday, Oct. 1.

“I am excited to be working for Alexander County, and I look forward to working with such a fine team of county employees, business owners and citizens for many years to come,” Herman said. “This is an exciting career move for me and my family and I hope to make a significant contribution through my work and involvement here in this great community.”

Herman, who was born and reared in Alexander County, worked for the Taylorsville Times for 12 years, followed by an almost seven-year stint as Public Information Officer for the City of Newton. Herman’s primary duties will include promotion of a “Buy Local” campaign, providing assistance to local small business owners, revamping the EDC website, www.alexander.org, publishing an economic development newsletter, writing news releases and a variety of other tasks.
