Accused rapists’ cases continued

September 13, 2010

Three men accused of first-degree rape and other charges had their cases continued in court last week.
Eddy Fernando Barrios-Ortiz, Milion Estuardo Barrios-Ortiz and Carlos Andreas Corenza Zeledon, all of Hickory, are charged with first-degree rape, robbery with a firearm, kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault stemming from an incident that occurred in January.
They were scheduled to appear in Catawba County Superior Criminal Court last week.
The Barrios-Ortiz brothers’ cases were continued to Oct. 4, and Zeledon’s case was continued to Dec. 6.
The men allegedly kidnapped a woman on Jan. 9 from a Hickory parking lot at gunpoint. According to Hickory Police, the men then drove the victim to another location, where they sexually assaulted her and forced her to give them her personal identification number, so they could withdraw money from her bank account.
The Barrios-Ortiz brothers were also charged in July when DNA evidence connected them to another rape case that allegedly occurred in January 2008.
The Barrios-Ortiz brothers are in Catawba County jail under a $1 million bond each.
