Accident blocks Springs Road

October 27, 2010

A two-vehicle accident blocked Springs Road for more than an hour early Wednesday morning.
Maria Montiel, 41, of Conover, was driving her 1997 Chevrolet north on Springs Road when she went crossed the centerline and hit a 2006 Ford 500 passenger car driven by Jose Jesus Saucedaraiz, 19, of Conover.
N.C. Highway Trooper B.K. Perkins said Montiel's car hit the Ford car head-on at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, totaling both vehicles. The impact sent the Ford vehicle off of the roadway.
Laura Figueroa, 21, of Conover, was a passenger in the Ford car. All three people involved were taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
All parties involved were wearing their seat belts, and Perkins said he saw no evidence of alcohol or drugs being involved in the accident.
Perkins said it is not known why Montiel crossed the center lane, but she was charged in the accident for going left of center. He said heavy rain could have played a factor in the accident.
