55 candidates apply in Maiden coaching search
The application process in the search for the next Maiden football coach ended Friday, with about 55 candidates applying for the position, according to assistant AD Butch Parker.
“We’ve got some quality candidates,” Parker said Friday before the Blue Devils’ home wrestling match against Bunker Hill.
According to a source, the list of rumored names who applied for the position includes:
• Doug McRee, a long-time Bandys assistant coach and current three-year member of the Maiden coaching staff.
• former Maiden football player Ryan Crawford, who competed from 1998-2001. He was recently inducted into the Davidson College hall of fame.
• Michael Ramseur, a former standout at Maiden High School and Mars Hill College; current Winston-Salem State assistant coach.
Parker said Principal Dwayne Finger hopes to have a name to present to Catawba County Schools Superintendent Glenn Barger for approval by the end of January.
The selection will be Maiden’s first football coach without the name Brown in nearly 40 years.
Brian Brown stepped down Nov. 21, 2011, after 13 seasons on the Maiden coaching staff, including four as head coach.
His father, Tom, coached at Maiden for 35 seasons
