$5.1M for 34 miles of county roads

July 31, 2012

In less than a year, almost 34 miles of Catawba County roads will be resurfaced.

The N.C. Department of Transportation announced Tuesday it awarded a $5.1 million contract to J.T. Russell & Sons Inc. of Albemarle for the resurfacing project which includes parts of U.S. 321 between Newton and Maiden, N.C. 10 in Newton and 16 sections of secondary raods throughout the county.

Jackie McSwain, a project manager with NCDOT Division 12, says county projects should be completed during normal traffic conditions. Lane closures and detours, she said, are not likely needed for the repaving project.

To read more of this story, pick up the weekend print edition of Catawba County's community newspaper, The Observer News Enterprise, at newsstands throughout the county.
