The 2A and 3A brackets for the boys and girls state basketball playoffs were released on Saturday with five teams both hosting and traveling for first round contests.

The CVAC co-champions in girls basketball — Bandys and Newton-Conover — are home for the first round.

The Lady Trojans are seeded No. 4 in the Midwest bracket and take on Central Davidson in Catawba. The winner meets No. 5 Thomasville or No. 12 Cuthbertson in Wednesday's second round.

Newton-Conover, who won the CVAC tournament Friday, hosts West Lincoln in the first round. Either Shelby or East Burke awaits the winner in round two.

Both Hickory squads are also hosting home games.

The Lady Red Tornadoes are the only county team seeded No. 1 and face No. 16 South Point in the West bracket.

The Red Tornadoes boys basketball team hosts East Henderson on Monday. If victorious, Hickory will have either Franklin or Burns in the second round of play.

St. Stephens is the fifth and final team to receive a home contest. The Indians, who made it to the Northwestern 3A/4A semifinals before being knocked out on a last-second tip-in by Alexander Central, take on Hunter Huss in Hickory on Monday.

A win by the Indians means a potential road game with No. 1 Freedom or a home contest against No. 16 South Point.

Fred T. Foard had both of its squads qualify for the postseason. The only bad news is both teams will be on the road Monday.

The Lady Tigers travel to Freedom in a No. 8-No. 9 match-up. The ninth-seeded Lady Tigers, if winners, could take on Hickory for the third time in less than two weeks.

The Lady Red Tornadoes won both match-ups, including the regular season finale (72-54) and conference tournament semifinals (72-48).

The Foard boys basketball team makes the playoffs under first-year head coach Rob Bliss. The Tigers drew a No. 12 seed and take on No. 5 Enka on the road. The winner receives either No. 4 Tuscola or No. 13 Erwin.

Three 2A boys basketball squads also hit the road, including Newton-Conover at CVAC regular season champion West Caldwell, Maiden at Ashe County and Bunker Hill at West Stokes.

The first, second and third round playoff contests are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Regionals take place from Feb. 28 to March 3 with state championships set for March 10.

2A state championships take place at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, while 3A state championships are at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
