The four remaining Catawba County basketball squads that made it through the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs are hosting second round games tonight.
In the 2A ranks, the Newton-Conover and Bandys girls basketball teams are at home at 7 p.m.
The No. 3 Lady Red Devils (25-3) host the CVAC’s third-place finisher and No. 11 seeded East Burke (18-9).Â
Newton-Conover swept the season series against the Lady Cavaliers.
The winner of that game gets either No. 2 Mountain Heritage (25-2) or No. 7 East Rutherford (18-7).
After scoring her 1,000th career point on Monday, CVAC player of the year Madi Story leads Bandys (25-2) against No. 5 Thomasville (18-6).
The No. 4 Lady Trojans scored a season-high 97 points against Central Davidson on Monday, including 41 from Story.
If successful Wednesday, Bandys awaits the winner of top seed North Stanley (26-1) or ninth-seeded Starmount (11-13).
Hickory’s boys and girls squads are also in action on Wednesday.
The Lady Red Tornadoes (26-1) face a Freedom squad (17-7) that eliminated Northwestern conference team Foard in Monday’s first round.
The Red Tornadoes (24-3) are the lone Catawba County boys squad remaining in the postseason.
Hickory hosts No. 10 Burns (8-12), with the winner awaiting either No. 11 Ashbrook (17-8) or No. 14 R-S Central (11-12).
Hickory’s games are set for 6:30 and 8 p.m.
