3 incumbents keep seats

November 3, 2010

Randy Isenhower thanks voters Tuesday
after he was chosen to keep his seat
on the Board of Commissioners.

The newly elected Catawba County Board of Commissioners won't appear any differently than it has during the board's last two meetings.
Republican incumbents Kitty Barnes, Lynn Lail and Randy Isenhower won seats on the board, outing Democrat challengers Carolyn Jones Connor and Crystal D. Smith.
Isenhower, who was appointed to serve on the board last month, was the top vote-getter of the night, receiving 28 percent of the votes.
"I appreciate everyone who voted for me tonight, and I look forward to serving Catawba County," Isenhower said.
The board appointed Isenhower in October to fill the vacated seat of Glenn Barger, who resigned from his position to become interim superintendent for Catawba County Schools.
Isenhower served on the board for two meetings prior to the election, and he has enjoyed learning the ins and outs of the job.
"A lot of it's just a learning process," he said, adding that he recently met with county department heads to learn more about the his new position.
Isenhower thanked the Catawba County GOP and the Board of Commissioners for appointing him to the position several weeks ago, and he thanked county voters for officially electing him to the position.
"(Voters) are looking to us for conservative answers and solutions, and I think we can continue to provide that for them," he said. "The five of us (board members) work well together."
Current board chairwoman Kitty Barnes received about 26 percent of the more than 106,000 votes cast in the Board of Commissioners race.
"It's always a relief when an election is over," Barnes said. "And it certainly makes you think about the goals you've set and what you want to accomplish for the county."
Lail received about 25 percent of the vote for commissioner.
"I've very grateful for everyone who voted for me, and I look forward to working with Kitty and Randy," she said.
Isenhower, Lail and Barnes will join Republicans Dan Hunsucker and Barbara Beatty on the Board of Commissioners.
