Twenty-five persons have applied to be the next head football coach at Fred T. Foard High School, according to athletic director Rob Bliss.

Of those 25 that applied, Bliss said that the school plans to interview seven coaching candidates.

“We have finished our preliminary interviews and are now going to take some time to determine which candidate is the best fit for Foard,” said Bliss in an email to the O-N-E.“We have to make sure of the positions we will have from the teaching stand point for next year. We hope to have a decision in the next couple of weeks.”

The school has been looking for a new varsity football coach since Jason Phelps resigned from his position on Feb. 20.

The next person hired to lead the Tigers will be Foard’s 10th head football coach since 1978.

It was revealed last week that fellow Northwestern 3A/4A school St. Stephens had 51 people apply to be the next Indians varsity football head coach.

Interviews for the St. Stephens coaching job are schedule to take place this coming week with the announcement of a new football coach to be on or around March 28.
