19 charged with DWI

Police issues 880 traffic and criminal violations in Catawba County during the "Booze it and Lose it" campaign during the July 4 holiday period. Among those there were 19 driving while intoxicated arrests made in the county.

Statewide, there were 63,485 traffic and criminal violations during the period, including 1,937 DWI arrests.

The the traffic enforcement campaign was operated June 29-July 29, and the Governor's Highway Safety Program issues results on Tuesday.

“These numbers show how dedicated state and local law enforcement are to removing drunk drivers and other violators from our roads,” said Transportation secretary Gene Conti said.
