‘Red Hot Spelling Bee’ crowns new victors

Discovery High School’s “Discombobulated Delegation” took home top honors for winning the seventh annual “Red Hot Spelling Bee” for the Newton Conover Education Foundation.

In all, 22 teams competed Tuesday night. The event was held in the Newton-Conover High School Gymnasium and emceed by Michael Willard from WXRC/WNNC radio.

All funds raised during the event will be used for scholarships given by the Newton-Conover Education Foundation.

Many of the teams got into the spirit by donning costumes to either intimidate their opponents or  win a prize for “best costume.”
