Saints top Panthers, take over NFC South lead

In a game that could go a long ways in determining this year's NFC South champion, New Orleans dominated Carolina on Thursday night.

Capitalizing on a second quarter fumble by Cam Newton near the goal line, the Saints took control and never looked back, winning 28-10 at Bank of America Stadium.

BREAKING: Bumgarner named World Series MVP

Madison Bumgarner is the 2014 World Series MVP.

The 25-year-old left-handed pitcher led the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 series victory against the Kansas City Royals.

Led by Bumgarner's five-inning relief effort, San Francisco defeated Kansas City 3-2 on the road in Game 4 of the World Series.

With the victory, the Hickory native wins his third World Series.

Driving back from Tuesday’s 2A West Region final in girls volleyball between Bunker Hill and Hendersonville, I reflected on the season’s final match and also the Lady Bears’ remarkable run.

Bunker Hill fell in the contest to the two-time defending state champion Lady Bearcats, 3-0, but the match — and the season for that matter — was much more than the final result.
