Indian swimmers win boys, girls county titles again

HICKORY — For the third-straight year, the St. Stephens swim program can boast its the best in Catawba County.

The Indians swept the boys and girls team titles at Tuesday’s fourth annual Catawba County Swimming Championships — the third in as many years that they’ve done so.

Swimmers compete tonight at county championships

Swimmers from all of the high schools in the area converge today at the Hickory Foundation YMCA for the fourth annual Catawba County championships.

St. Stephens is the two-time defending champions in the event, having swept the boys and girls titles in each of the past two years.

SOURCES: Ex-Maiden coach Tom Brown to lead Cavs

Sources close to the Observer News Enterprise say that former Maiden head football coach Tom Brown will be named the next gridiron leader at East Burke High School.

Brown's name is expected to be presented by East Burke officials before the Burke County Board of Education on Monday for approval.

Newton-Conover boys, Maiden girls win rivalry games

January 4, 2014

The Newton-Conover boys basketball team surged late in the first half and exploded in the second half on their way to a rivalry win against Maiden on Friday night.

Meanwhile, in girls action, Maiden picked up its sixth victory of the season against Newton-Conover.

PREP BASKETBALL: Classic brackets are released

HICKORY — The Hickory Metro Sports Commission has announced the pairings for the 27th annual Catawba Valley Classic high school basketball tournament

The event will be held Friday, Dec. 27-28 and 30, 2013. The tournament will feature the boy's and girl's teams from eight area high schools competing in the three day event.

Indians take early lead, knock off Blue Devils

December 20, 2013

The St. Stephens boys basketball team built an early lead on Friday on its way to a 57-38 victory against Maiden in Hickory.
