PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Bears pull comeback

Down 2-0 heading into the seventh inning, the Lady Bears scored four runs in the seven for a come-from-behind victory against Maiden on the softball diamond.

Anna Williams delivered the game winning hit — a two RBI single that plated Desirae Bebber and Makayla Hedrick.

Bebber and Hedrick drove in one RBI each in the Lady Bears' comeback inning.

'Dads drop series finale to 'Hoppers, 9-3

The Greensboro Grasshoppers picked up a 9-3 victory in the series finale against the Hickory Crawdads on Friday before 1,540 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

'Hoppers catcher Austin Barnes led his team by going 3-for-3 from the plate with a double and three RBIs.

Center fielder Grayson perseveres to lead ‘Dads

Bandys and South Caldwell played to a 0-0 tie in non-conference girls soccer Thursday in Catawba.

South Caldwell keeper Hannah Young saved 12 Trojan shots, while Bandys keeper Maria Carinci saved two shots on goal.

Bandys is 12-3-3 overall and 7-3-1 in the CVAC, while South Caldwel is 2-11-3 and 1-8-1 overall.

The Indians trailed 3-1 late until they scored one run in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth to pull ahead.

Red Devils finish in top 3 of CVAC championships

East Burke’s girls and Draughn’s boys track teams were crowned CVAC champions at Bunker Hill on Tuesday, but Newton-Conover had a lot to be proud of.

The Red Devils who were fifth (girls) and eighth (boys) a year ago at the same meet, finished inside the top-three spots on both sides.

The Maiden baseball team picked up a 4-2 road victory in CVAC play Tuesday against East Burke.

Jake Aaron, Dillon Foster and Daniel Williams each drove in an RBI for the Blue Devils, while Dustin Hipps scored a pair of runs.

Aaron Rudisill was the winning pitching for Maiden, while Hipps pitched up the save.
