PREP NOTEBOOK: Wilkerson's 20 Ks best Indians

Chelsea Wilkerson struck out 20 St. Stephens batters and allowed one hit, leading the Lady Cougars to the 2-0 victory in conference play.

Lady Indians first basemen Darian Fisher broke up a perfect game by Wilkerson in the sixth inning with a single.

St. Stephens falls to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the Northwestern conference.

Panthers deal RB Goodson for Raiders' OT Campbell

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers announced they've traded running back Mike Goodson to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for offensive tackle Bruce Campbell.

Goodson, who ran for 501 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons with Carolina, became expendable after the team signed free agent running back Mike Tolbert earlier this offseason.

Lilly medalist in county match, Hickory wins team title

Some things change, while others just stay the same.

That was the case Thursday at the Catawba County golf championships at Catawba Country Club.

Hickory claimed the 20th annual team title, while Maiden junior Thomas Lilly claimed medalist honors.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Tigers suffer first loss

The Fred T. Foard softball team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 2-0 contest to North Iredell on Thursday.

North Iredell pitcher Karley Harkey gave up four Foard hits, striking out three batters.

Ashley Oliver had two hits for the Lady Tigers (12-1), while Olivia Purvis and Rebecca Rowe had one hit each.

Trio propels Red Devil golf back to top

Hayden Bandy, Alex Hefner and Lee Mitchell weren’t at the same school until this season.

Now, the trio of golfers are leading Newton-Conover to new heights, as the Red Devils head into today’s Catawba County golf championships at Catawba Country Club.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Trojans win sixth straight

Bandys (6-3, 5-1) won their sixth softball game in a row with a 6-0 shutout victory against East Burke on Wednesday.

Sara Boyd and Rachel Cox each drove in two RBIs, while Breanna Jones and Kathleen Reardon each drove in an RBI.

Taylor Sigmon earned the victory on the mound, striking out three batters, walking two and allowing nine hits.2

Postseason OT adopted for NFL regular season

PALM BEACH, Fla. — Even though the NFL's new rule for postseason overtime has never come into play, it's being expanded for the regular season, too.

NFL owners passed the playoff overtime rule for the regular schedule Wednesday. All games that go into overtime now cannot end on a field goal on the first possession.

Lomboy's two goals lift Hickory past Foard

Scoring off the set piece was a problem this season for the Hickory girls soccer team — until Tuesday.

Senior Jackie Lomboy pocketed two set piece goals to push the Lady Red Tornadoes to a 2-1 road victory against Fred T. Foard.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Indians drop second NWC game

March 27, 2012

The St. Stephens baseball team dropped its second conference game of the season on the diamond in a six-inning 13-3 loss to the Pioneers.

Watauga (7-4, 4-2) scored seven runs on six hits in the second inning, which propelled them to the victory.

Max Linnville led the Pioneers with a 3-for-4 performance from athe palte, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
