PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Indians shut out East Gaston

St. Stephens carried momentum from a Friday victory against Fred T. Foard to pick up an impressive 10-0 five-inning win against East Gaston.

The Lady Indians (14-6, 8-2) had 13 hits in their game against the Lady Warriors, including three each by Taylor Lail and Calyn Davis.

Davis led St. Stephens offensively with three RBIs, while Brian Thornburg and Alana Starnes drove in an RBI each.

Bobcats' Thomas ejected for throwing elbow

April 23, 2012

WASHINGTON — Charlotte forward Tyrus Thomas was ejected from the Bobcats' game with the Wizards for throwing an elbow at Washington's James Singleton late in the first quarter on Monday night.

Thomas was dribbling and Singleton was defending him when the Charlotte forward elbowed him with 3.6 seconds remaining in the quarter. He was immediately called for a flagrant 2 foul and ejected.

Crawdads sweep Savannah, Richardson tops win list

April 22, 2012

The Hickory Crawdads finished a four-game sweep of the Savannah Sand Gnats on Sunday with a 1-0 rain-shortened victory in South Atlantic League play.

The lone run plated came in the top of the third when Hanser Alberto lined out to pitcher Michael Fulmer. Combined with throwing errors by Fulmer and center fielder Tillman Pugh, Christopher Grayson came across home plate from second base.

Robinson, Crawdads top Sand Gnats in 13 innings

The Hickory Crawdads pulled out a 13-inning victory Friday against Savannah in South Atlantic League play.

Third baseman Drew Robinson led the 'Dads (10-5) with three RBIs, including a two-RBI double that plated Jeremy Williams and Kellin Deglan.

Outfielder Chris Grayson drove in the other run in the 13th frame for the 'Dads. His double scored Robinson.

ACC committee issues public reprimand to UNC

GREENSBORO — The Atlantic Coast Conference's infractions and penalties committee has issued a public reprimand to North Carolina.

The reprimand was announced Friday and came roughly a month after the NCAA's infractions committee imposed sanctions on the Tar Heels' football program.

PREP NOTEBOOK: Trojans pull comeback over N-C

April 19, 2012

Leading 5-4 entering the final frame, Newton-Conover surrendered four runs in the seventh inning to drop a heart-breaking CVAC baseball game to the Bandys.

Seth Hubbard and Hunter Harvey each drove in RBIs during the comeback seventh for Trojans. Harvey finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate.

Holden Pender picked up the win on the mound, while Griffin Shepard suffered the loss.

'Dads limit Sand Gnats to two hits in 7-1 win

April 19, 2012

The Hickory Crawdads scattered 13 hits offensively and allowed only two by the Savannah Sand Gnats to earn the 7-1 victory Thursday on the road in South Atlantic League play.

Hickory's Jerad Eickhoff went five innings to earn the win, striking out three batters, walking two and allowing one run on two hits.
