PREP NOTEBOOK: Trojans pull comeback over N-C

Leading 5-4 entering the final frame, Newton-Conover surrendered four runs in the seventh inning to drop a heart-breaking CVAC baseball game to the Bandys.

Seth Hubbard and Hunter Harvey each drove in RBIs during the comeback seventh for Trojans. Harvey finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate.

Holden Pender picked up the win on the mound, while Griffin Shepard suffered the loss.

'Dads limit Sand Gnats to two hits in 7-1 win

The Hickory Crawdads scattered 13 hits offensively and allowed only two by the Savannah Sand Gnats to earn the 7-1 victory Thursday on the road in South Atlantic League play.

Hickory's Jerad Eickhoff went five innings to earn the win, striking out three batters, walking two and allowing one run on two hits.

Bears host 100-inning game on Saturday

A nearly two-decade tradition continues Saturday at Bunker Hill High School.

The Bears baseball team will host another edition of the 100-inning game, the program’s largest annual financial fundraiser.

Wednesday's Crawdads game postponed due to rain

Wednesday's scheduled game between the Hickory Crawdads and Kannapolis Intimidators at L.P. Frans Stadium was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Hickory on Monday, May 21, with the first of two seven-inning games starting at 4 p.m.

C.J. Leslie returning for junior season at N.C. State

RALEIGH — Basketball standout C.J. Leslie is returning to North Carolina State for his junior season.

The school issued a statement saying Leslie would discuss his decision Wednesday afternoon during a scheduled press conference.

The 6-foot-8 forward averaged a team-best 14.7 points and added 7.3 rebounds per game.

“I couldn’t do anything mobile for six months,” Lamb said. “I was in a body cast. I didn’t know what was going on. I never knew that I couldn’t play sports. My parents let me do what I wanted. I wanted to play baseball. It just stuck.”

Todd Church drove in two RBIs and also pitched a complete game to lead Newton-Conover to its fourth victory of the season against East Burke, 9-5.

Chris Aronis also drove in two RBIs, while Michael Woods and Jayme Arnold both went 2-for-4 from the plate.

Big fifth inning lifts Hickory past Kannapolis, 7-5

A four-run bottom of the fifth inning helped lift the Hickory Crawdads to a 7-5 victory against the Kannapolis Intimidators on Tuesday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Trailing 4-3 entering the fifth, but the 'Dads (8-5) took a 6-4 lead behind a two-run triple from second basemen Rougned Odor that scored Jhonny Gomez and Chris Grayson.

4 Foard seniors, coach sent off on winning note

Persistence paid off for Fred T. Foard on the tennis court Monday.

Tied 4-4 with St. Stephens, the doubles team of Samuel Hefner and Russell Michaels rallied from down two points early in their match with Zach Eddins and Nick Linden to pull the 11-9 comeback on “Senior Day.”
